The Cultural Difference In Writing And Plagiarism

I found that the largest difference between Japanese and English is the way how to express their opinions in essays. While the most important assertion comes after describing some supporting reasons in Japanese, the authors write the opinion at the beginning of the passage then show background for the argument. Also, structure of sentence often confuses me. For example, the noun was followed by modification to explain it; however, in Japanese, the order to express a thing is vice versa. I suggest that reading article with the purposes to learn structures and grammar is effective to improve the skill of Japanese learners. The types of verbs taught in EDUTL 106 are extremely helpful for me because those words enable me to distinguish the authors opinion and facts.

The point where I feel difficult to understand was the very arcane attitude for academic misconduct for even undergraduate students. I know that some classmates in Japan earned A's in laboratory course by submitting the reports that their senior had done, and the instructors did not care about the violations. From this experiment, I agree with the idea that cultural background effects plagiarism prevention, shown in the article "Cheating Across Cultures"(May 24, 2007) by Elizabeth Redden, because the situation I met is based on Japanese trend not to say wrong thing face to face in order to avoid troubles. I thought that punishment because of the norm violation would be given only people in research; therefore, this point was hard for me to understand before taking this class. Generally, academic misconduct was not regarded as serious violation compared to those in United States.

It’s important to learn a second language in 20th and 21ft century to communicate with the other world. I have been studying English since the first grade. As I go up in classes the English become harder and harder, there are many things I consider it hard for me. First, when I started to study English, it was hard for me to write from left to right and it was unnatural for me, as we know Arabic people are writing from right to left. Second, sometimes I get confused I write girl beautiful because Arabic are putting nouns before the adjective. Finally, a thing that I want to get rid of it is how to use conjunctions. I really want to make my writing stronger by adding conjunctions.

Plagiarism is very important topic for students especially for university students to know. Plagiarism has a lot of rules that hard to understand, but I understood some of them like re-paraphrase, citation and change wording. I can’t determine the main ideas and it is hard to summarize a paragraph of you don’t know to the main ideas. Sub-ideas are not enough to understand the paragraph. I think the culture play role of the idea of plagiarism. Some people accept the idea to plagiarize, but some not. I don’t like to watch others steal my works; I spent time doing it. In the UAEU (United Arab Emirates University) student are subject of law if the cheat or plagiarize.

Blog #6 Writing Self Evaluation

In this blog, think about the progress you have been making in writing. First, what aspects of writing in your first language (Chinese, Korean, Japenese, Arabic) were difficult for you before you began writing in English? Then, what aspects of English writing are difficult for you? Be specific (i.e. organization, expression, grammar, paraphrasing, organizing...) Try to give examples. What do you think you need to do to improve? What lessons in this class have been the most useful to you?

In the next paragraph, what aspects of plagiarism and academic misconduct are difficult for you to understand? What experiences did you have with this topic in your own country? Do you think culture plays a role, as it is suggested in the "Cheating Across Cultures" article? Why or why not? Give examples. (250-300words, 2 paragraphs)

Blog 5# - The Ohio State University College of Dentistry

This is the story, 'The Ohio State University College of Dentistry' which written by program coordinator, Rachel VanSickle. The reason I choose this story is that I want to be dentist when I was young. This is because, the dentist I went to see when I was young seemed really gorgeous. His treatment of healing and fabulous skill to handle bad toothache brought me that I want to be a dentist. At that time, the biggest part of my decision was that I could be the person who necessary for toothache people. Additionally, the story telling contents in this story was really impressive to me because I could see the strong passion toward to healing patient and faithful responsibility. Even thought my current major is not any related with dentistry thing, I think the dream in childhood is really precious and memorable to me.

I just watched Rachel Vansickel's digital story, named "The ohio state university college of Dentistry". She started with his digital story telling by introducing her first experience of working in Ohio State University. After this she feels that she is challenging new degree in this school by providing health service with professors. She did service to young children. Also, she mentioned about her dental program system, and how she and other dentistry people do service to young children in Ohio State University. She impacted on students who graduated from Ohio State University in Dentistry Major.

I chosed this major because I am thinking of apply to Dental School if I can do well on my major. My major is biology, and this major is related to dentistry major. First, I think this digital story is well organized. She did well to introduce her story from past time to recent time. Also, she points out her goal to work in OSU Dentstry. Second, she spoke with clear pronounciation and fluency. However, I just want to suggest that She needs to put more pictures. Each of her pictures is too long, so audiances might feel bored when she talks. I also want more pictures about providing health care services. If she put more pictures of that, she can emphasize more about her challenging, and her accomplishment.

* I could not hear clearly some part because internet is so slow! It got stuck many times.

Blog 4 (Evaluation)

I had read Chanho's story. After I read his article, I really had same feelings and sympathy. The reason I felt like that is I should also do military service. Before I read his article, I had a streotype that military service is really not helpful for my life. I have been thinking military service will make my English skill low, and forget everything that I have learned. However, after I read his article, I realized that military will be fun and teach me important thing too. I want to suggest one more thing to him. I want him to mention little more about how his life changed after military service time.

I had read Amen's story, and I realized how much he feels so excited about studying in USA. I felt exactly same feeling when I came to USA. I was impressed when he compared studying in India and studying in USA. It is good that what is his dream, and what is his goal. However, I think he needs to mention little more about specific plans how he will approach his goals. For example, he said his major is civil engineering. He chosed that major because he wants to protect enviornment. But, i want to know little more about how he will study his degree well.

Fashioning a Life(DST)

'Fashioning a Life' was wrote by Miriam Conteh-Morgan who is a mother now.The story told a story about the gold and silver trinkets between the author's famaily. The whole story shows  nostalgia for her mother and grandma and her expectation for her daughter. At the begining of the story, the author introduces the origin of the gold and the fashion use of the gold by people. Then their is a story between her and her mother. Her mother would renew her gold ear rings each July and the trinket had been grown up with the author .Later on the author began to choose some new trinkets mady by plastics or others. And her daughter had a pair of silver ear rings with her.But at last her mother and grandma leave still.
I choose this DST just because I have some resonance with the author on the miss of  dead famaily members and the perfect nostalgia atmosphere hold by the author. The author use simple words and story introduce a trinket which connect she and her mother and even more her daughter. This a sense of hereditary treasure which can embrave the whole famaily to grow up healthily and well. And the words the author use is easy for us to understand and the music used is very appropriate. In one word, this is a meaningful story.

In "The San Francisco Academy of Comic Art collection"(URL: http://digitalstory.osu.edu/movies/amy-f.html), Amy McCrory, presents a value of a cartoon drawing in newspaper before television in the united states. Also, the cartoon shows everyday daily life at that time. She point out that, at first, the cartoon was considered as an valueless items from historian for a long time, because the publication of comic in newspaper became common in daily life such as generalization in a libraries, as a result it's copy become rare. In 1960, comic historian Bill Blackbeard began to collect comics in his house, and he filed tons of them in a room. In the 1996, when he lost his house, he searched a library to keep the collection, and the keeping place became the OSU library, also she volunteered to put comics in order, because she know the value of the collection and took a second look at history.

In my personal opinion about this Digital Story Telling, the topic is well organized from the beginning -her interests in the comics- to the end -her opinions-, also it is very interesting and stimulating curiosity with old television cartoon sound with classic comics. There are a lot of images to show what kind of cartoons in newspaper at that time, and it offer well understanding about old fashion in the history. However, her speech feels like a hollow voice even she tell favorite fields, so I cannot focus on her voice and it made boring although she made good story.

In the digital story “what do I want to be when I grow up”, the author, Sarah Hill mainly tell us about the experience she had to deal with the question as seen in the title. She indicated in the story that in the early year she only wanted to go out and show others about her talent.  So she went to California to have college education. However after the author graduated she decide to back to the place where she is familiar with. The author then back to Ohio and get 2 more years education in Ohio. That’s the time when she get a brand new idea came to her mind that she could be a adviser or counselor in order to help other student figure out what they want to do when they grow up. She loves her job and she felt happy to help other student to clear their goal for life. The author believed that knowing what goal is couldn’t bring pressure, instead this could be an efficient push towards better life.

The reason I pick this article is that it has a clear story line. The story is told as a form of reminiscing, the word might be simple but pretty much touching. And the author used proper picture with proper stop in the whole story telling. This could help reader to catch the main idea better. Besides the music chimed in adds feelings to this story. Indeed, this could be a outstanding story.

#5 "Howling at the Moon" - Junghyun Hong

First of all, I want to choose her pictures in DST as the best point. There are a lot of pictures which show their happiness. I can feel they really enjoyed their work and they look like very friendly. Also, the sound of howling wolf was fun and impressive. Her voice tone and background music were well mixed. However, I felt little empty during time of silence. I think just showing pictures and no saying for long times are not useful to give proper messages. Taken as a whole, the DST was interesting and well-organized.

In the Digital story “ Oxford English Dictionary” by Anna Field. Here the author introduces his story in a good sentence she says, “ Letter makes words and word makes language”. She describes the making of Oxford dictionary was started in 1854 and it is still going on. She uses the pictures of letters to describe how the dictionary was made. And how much hard work was done to make the dictionary. In addition to that, she points out that how the words of English have been transferred from England to Atlantic. A 12,000 quotations were made in the dictionary, after a long work by the people a 1.8 million quotations were made on a separate sheet of paper. These quotations were bundled together and were sent from England to Atlantic by mail, some in baby beds and picnic baskets. When these alphabets reached to Atlantic these were separated in alphabetic letters. Then these letters were filled until definitions were not written. A lot number of editions were made and a third edition was released that is online. A 1.5 million words are there in the third edition.

The best part of the Digital Story is that it is well described. Moreover the language that is spoken in clearly understood. The speaker has used images to describe how dictionary was made and also how the letters were transferred from England to Atlantic. She also describes how difficult and a long lasting process was it is to make a dictionary.

Blog5 summary DST

In the “The Oxford English Dictionary”(URL:http://digitalstory.osu.edu/movies/fields-f.html), written by Anne Fields on April 2007, describes the production of this OED dictionary. There were hundreds of people from all around the world helped to finish this dictionary. It was a very difficult work because they imagined collecting millions of words in 15 volumes and finding out all of their meanings. Some of those words even have more than two meanings. People collected those words follow the order from a to z. It’s a super big book and they began to compile words in 1854 and they didn’t finish in 1928. Nowadays, people are still adding the word in this dictionary online and the dictionary is translated all around the world. And at the end of this digital story, the author stressed the main idea “letters make words, words make language, words change over time, language change over time.”

In my point of view, this digital story has a good main idea “letters make words, words make language, words change over time, language change over time.” And Anne described the process of creating a dictionary is very detailed. Very clear voice with good rhythm of the music and the picture also shows the author’s idea clearly. This story is also told with exactly the amount of detail throughout and appropriate organized.

This story is about the story telling. She has lived with stories. She studied many kinds of stories and she can make a story in many different view. She want to say that We all have some story to tell and we can tell anything through diverse medium. And she introduces Center for Digital storytelling which can help make a digital storytelling.

Let me evaluate this video. Purpose of This story is about noticing that everybody can tell a story and anything can be story. This is clear and she did not turn away. It was excellent. This point of view is also excellent. Content is excellent too because I am interested in digital story telling and many others do. Her voice and pronunciation is good. She explains in easy viewpoint but there is no dramatic question. There was nothing special. Back Ground Music is monotonous. Images are not bad. The story needs more information about storytelling I think.

The digital story "The Oxford English Dictionary" by Anna fields who mentioned that English dictionary took many steps from the first day in 1854. Moreover, she introduced her story with a very wonderful sentence "letters make words, words make language, words change over time, language change over time." She explains how words changed from 1854 to 1928 and that still continues changing till now. In addition to that, she points out that words of English have transferred from around England to the Atlantic. The Oxford English dictionary used easy order; for example, letter A puts in the first page and then letter B ... etc. She also notes that the third edition is online which has about half millions words in 2000. In conclusion, she stressed a nice sentence "letters make words, words make language, words change over time, language change over time."

The best part of this digital story is the topic which has a deep meaning. She presented the information by a good speaking for the audiences. Basically, the sound in the story was not clear, but she used good images related to the topic. Furthermore, many people had talked about the same topic. On the other hand, she added more details to make the story useful.

In"A Journey Through a Magazine"(URL: http://digitalstory.osu.edu/movies/Rhoades-f.html ), Emily B. Rhoades describes her experience with the magazine named "AgriNatutralist" and the history of it from 1894. The author presents the first experience with the magazine which was at her first year in the OSU and the magazine published a picture of her and her roomates. Her second experience with it was when she switched her major to agirculture communication. She looked at what differnet issues have covered in the past as a co-editor of the magazine at her senior. As her role in career path changed, the author found herself back in OSU and now, her job is work with the current students to publish the future edition.
This is my favorit digital story telling on the website, because she presents the clearest voice, good pacing and wonderful pictures. The structure of her story is organized by her three experience with the magazine. She describes the history of the magazine while she was working for the magazine as a writer and co-editor, which makes a perfect connection of those two parts. Moreover, the author gives me a idea of what is this magazine about by telling the details. Such as the magazine was created by a group of students in 1894 who interested in developing relations between farmers, university and college. I can feel her passion on her job through watching her digital story telling. The music is simple but matchable with the pictures and her story.

Blog#4 What do I want to be when I grow up?

In the digital story telling, “What do I want to be when I grow up?” Sarah Hill presents her story from when she was young till now, wondering “What do I want to be when I grow up?.” First, when she was young, she was wondering about her career and she nominated 3 different jobs: chef, international businesswoman, or fashion merchandiser. She grew up in a small town located in southeastern Ohio called Monroeville. She is the happiest person in the world when she is surrounding by people she love. Second, after 2 years since she gradated she asked herself the same question again “What do I want to be when I grow up?”. She discussed 3 jobs again, but not the same ones when she was younger. She was confused between: student advisor, student life coordinator, or career guidance. Finally, she decided to be a student advisor and she still asks herself the same question “What do I want to be when I grow up?”. She is happy to help students in their trip to real life. She consider that the “What do I want to be when I grow up?” is not pressure for us, but an encouragement.

The way of presenting of the digital story telling was good and motivated. The topic was interesting and little bit surprising especially when she is asking herself the same question over and over. She used a good language and she spoke clearly. The images are expressive and mach the topic. It would be better if she went deeper into the story.

I read "Memory pieces from HongKong" written by Gefei Li
His writing makes me buy a ticket to Hong Kong but i need a more information.
After i saw this writing, I really want to go shopping but i was not able to find how cheap products are.
And He said it has both western festival and eastern festival but I can not find what eastern festival is.
I am very satisfied this essay but he need little bit more information in specific i think.

Also, I read Gina Zhang's story, "The gorgeous city I grown up in----Xiamen".
I sympathize with her because my hometown is small surrounded by sea and mountain either. Everybody is not in a hurry comparing the Korea's Capital city, Seoul.
She said Xiamen is in Fujian province but I don't know where Fujian Province is. China is very huge so we need her explanation. If she explained more about the location of her hometown, It would be more helpful to understand this post.

In Sarah Hall’s digital story, “What do I want to be when I grow up?” she discusses what kind life she wants to have when she grows up. Sarah spends her entire life trying to answer this question. She grows up in a small town. During her college she gets several experiences traveling to big cities tries to find out and show the world what she could do. During her trip, she realizes that even she was successful but she would be happier surround by people who she loves. She observes that “what does she want to be when she grows up” after she well-education and graduating from college. She brings the question up again after she gets more knowledge from school. She becomes s student counselor after graduated from college. She loves her job, and helps people to find out the answer of their future and life. She quotes two sentences in the end of her digital story, and conclude that the best question do not have only one answer.

I like the way Hall organizes her digital story. The background music doesn’t louder than her voice, and her spoken voice is clear and consistently. I can easily get the purpose of Hall’s story in the beginning of her story and topic. Her pacing fits the story line and brings me really get into her story. Hall’s images and music stir emotional response well. In the of Hall’s digital story, she concludes her point of her story by using John Lenson and Confucius’ word for ending.

I really enjoyed reading Ramis’ digital story. It is interesting to know the different people, and different culture. I can never image about live in a desert place with black and brown camels. Camel racing is like a screen from Disney channel for me. I wonder how your camel hugs you, and how they recognize their owners. It’s a pretty good story, but what is the topic for this story? Camels in my hometown or …

Maggie’s digital story really attracts me. I went to Shanghai Exposition this summer, too. It was much crowed, and I can hardly find my friends when I got lost. I recommend working on the topic sentence in the beginning of the story, and sharing your feels about the last trip with your family. How did you feel about traveling with your parents? And the conclusion about this trip.

The digital story “Learning To Ride” I watched is a story about family written by Rachel Pater. (URL:http://www.storycenter.org/stories/index.php?cat=4) In this story, the author describes her memory about a tendem bike which plays an important role in her life.  At about  8 years old, author’s father bought a tendem bike to ride with his daughter. Since this is the only tendem bike in the neighborhood, people were always curious and amazed about it. Once, author and her father riding passed some bikes, a kid pointed the tendem bike to his friend and said “ look, a two -person bike.” After hearing this word, her father said loudly enough to let them hear: “ look, Rachel, a one-person bike.” Author was proud of be different and thought her father is the funniest  dad in the world. However, when the author grew up, she always made excuses to not get out with her father in the public. She didn’t want to hold her parents in public and talk with them at night. One day her father made a suggestion of riding the tendem bike with her, but she refused. Then her father rode bikes by himself. Author thought it was ridiculous to ride a two-person bike alone. She remembered clearly that her father once said to her: “ You can not care what people think about you.”
In this digital story, author expresses her respect to her father by recalling riding a tendem bike with her father. The story has a obvious propose of showing relationship with author’s dad. It is pretty interesting and engaging. The script is well spoken and the spacing is outstanding. I like the music used in this story and the tone of narrator. The images and content are combined well, adding new insight. There are many specific details, portraying the deep emotion of author.

Blog#5: Digital Storytelling

In the digital story “Digital Storytelling: Text to Video”(http://digitalstory.osu.edu/movies/diaz-f.html), the author Karen Diaz described digital storytelling from different ways. Diaz firstly addressed what she learned from stories when she was young. It is the first part of this digital story as an introduction of the topic. The author started to state the different roles that she played in her current life which can be topics of a story and the significance of telling a story in communication. Diaz mentioned her own experience of making this digital story from separate processes like editing the script, choosing the music and images to support the main thought and emotion of the story. Lastly, the author presented the diverse and flexible choices that you can make with your story and what the readers can get from you story.
I have seen several digital stories on the website but eventually I chose this one to summarize and evaluate because that this story has good quality of voice and music and excellent organization of the article for understanding. I can catch the main point of this story easily. Furthermore, the unique feature of the story is the usage of music. In the first part and last part, the author chose leisurely and melodious music as the background. However, when talking about her life experiences in the middle part, the music turned to be cheerful to emphasize the importance of this part. And, the images and the text match perfectly. Personally, I think there is still something can be improved like making the title and the introduction more attractive and the main point more clear and meaningful.

In the story “Drilling Sajama” (URL: http://digitalstory.osu.edu/movies/Landis-f.html ),the author Carol Landis addresses the research by the Geologist Dr. Lonnie Thompson about tropical mountain ice field in Bolivia, and his outstanding communication skill as scientist. She explained that he must get the permission not only from the government but also the people there, to achieve his research. The video illustrate he had a negotiation with natives to have a survey, facing their strong belief regarding glacier as god. The story emphasized that finally he and his team were allowed to have survey on the mountain due to his extraordinary skill.

I consider her her story to be very good with devices she used in it, even though there are some difficult vocabulary to understand for students from foreign countries. This story obviously describes the excellence of Dr. Lonnie as both scientific and cultural reasons. I also noticed that this story was mainly consisted by Lonnie’s own experience with the same order as he had passed. This practice enables listener to follow the story friendly. In the part of story, she also focused on how to express the rate of value by providing the graphs on the picture. I could easily recognize how the number moved statistically than just reading it. However, she did not put enough pauses while reading it; therefore, it may cause listeners to follow in a bit difficult way. For these reasons, I evaluate her twists on the story such as composing the story in time order, writting the draft with Lonnie’s experiences, showing the graph to allow listener to understand the contents easier.

He wrote what he did at the football game, what he felt at the game, and why others should watch it. He said that it was very nice experience to him, and encouraged people to watch it at the stadium. After read his story, I would watch the game at the stadium since he wrote easy to understand and made me to feel same as what he felt at the stadium.
The second story is "My trip to Philippines".
He wrote the journey story to Philippines. He wrote four points of his views at Philippines. What he wrote is so visible that I can easily imagine during read his story. After done reading his story, I felt I would like to visit Philippines soon.

I watched a digital story whcih was posted by Cecyl Esau named "Memories of a Political Prisoner from Worcester". This man talks about his life and his family. Especcially his life of a political prisoner. However, I was not so engaging into his story. It's not very exciting and surprising. It's just ok. And he has a sick people's voice whcih is weak and inexplicit. The pacing of his voice is just like somebody chewing the gum. And the background music is what he sang some chrismas song in his first language. I must say that is very original and unique. Not just because the uniqe style, but also the unique voice he has. He didn't use many images. And most of those black and white pcitures confused me. What were those guys doing in this picture? They just stand there and then smell. What are they doing? Show their yellow teethes? And I think this vedio need more details.

I think that he could pay more attention on his prison life. And using more pictures of that darkness period to be the history background. And the song of backgroundshould need be changed, to make his prisoner life sounds more exciting and dangerous. That must be more attractive.

But I think the word "undergo" is used like tolerate and it should be "experience". was there any interesting story in your childhood?

In the story of "close to XinJiang" wrote by DongJin Li, the author shows us very vivid pictures about XinJiang. It's so cool to travel in XinJing. I think it's such a breathtaking experience to walk in the desert. Good story and nice picture. The specific detail is excellent. In the digital story “Mission trip in Costa-Rica” written by Junghyun Hong, there is brief and vivid description and excellent details about a trip of Costa-Rica. Firstly, the author explained the definition of “Mission trip” which is really helpful for understanding this meaningful and special trip. Secondly, I think the most attractive parts of the whole story are that how to cook a living big pig and the experience of mission. Moreover, the article has good organization. But personally, I desire to know the significance of this trip. Additionally, you can talk more about what you learn from this trip and a little more about what kind of hardship and defeat that you have met in the trip besides the positive experience will make the whole story more diverse and various.
Ramis’ article needs a title. After going through this story, I am so interested in the atmosphere of totally different and unique culture of another country. In my opinion, I think he have chosen a very impressive and attractive topic and good introduction to the culture of camels and custom of winter trip. However, I would recommend that he add more details about his own experiences like his own winter trip and his lovely camel. That would be more interesting than simple introduction and statement.

In the article called A trip of Shanghai world Expo, the feelings and what she had got are expressed by the author Yixue Wang. She use a lot of pictures well introduce the sights and buildings in the Shanghai world Expo.I have no experience about Shanghai world Expo before, but after reading her article,I think I have some impressions of the place which has many high-tech things and rich culture in different countries. So the story is easy to read and understand, but it needs more words to talk about the expectations or thoughts about Shanghai .Why Shanghai can hold this Expo but not Xi'an,haha?
In the article called Close to Xin Jiang, the author well introduce his trip to Xin Jiang.I think article is one of best in the stories.Because the author's words are specific and exact.I do not want to go to Xin Jiang before.Because in my mind it is hot and non-attractive.But after reading those graceful words written by Dongjin Li,'it’s so blue and clean, just like “The Heart of the Ocean” diamond' ,I can see a picture of “SaiLiMu” lake. Thanks for the author ,he had brought me to Xin Jiang already. And what I like also is his good conclusion and specific words, those are what I should learn.

Feedback..

In “A trip of Shanghai world Expo”, Yixue Wang express what he felt in Shanghai world Expo. He watched many kinds of exhibitions from various countries. He went there with his family as a last trip before study aboard. His writing has clear sentences and I can easily feel and imagine what he experienced and where he went. However, when I read his story, I felt that he tends to just list what he saw without what he felt. So, I want to ask him which exhibitions were the best and worst in this event for him and why they were. Also, I am eager to know how his family felt. His story is pretty interesting and easy to understand. However, if he writes his thought more and expresses what he expects to next world Expo, the story would be more interesting and strong. I guess that he took a lot of pictures, so, his digital story telling would have good attraction.

Jackson explains his idol star ‘Stephen Chow’, who is very famous actor in China. I didn’t know him and this story gave interesting information about him. I want to watch his movies. Most of all, the story of his past is impressive and well written. However, I think Jackson needs to write what makes him to love this actor in detail. If Jackson tells us about any his change or impression after he knew and liked him, I would easily understand why he loves him so much. Also, I can’t understand and want to ask what ‘hard-bitten’ means. Moreover, I think he needs to separate his story more to easily read each paragraph. If he uses interesting pictures about his movies or acting scene, his digital story would be more amusing and attractive.

Blog#5 - Digital Story Critique

First, choose a digital story to watch on your own. Please watch a story from a digital story website like Digital Storytelling at OSU. Don't use Youtube.com. Summarize the story and what it was about, in a paragraph. Be sure to cite the title of the story and the URL.

Then, in a second paragraph, provide a critique of the story according to the rubric (checklist) given in class. Talk about all the items in your critiqu and how well the story presents itself to you the audience. (250-300 words)

Blog #4 Feedback to other Classmates' Story Scripts

Please choose at least 2 classmates near your blog and read their stories. Think about them and consider whether they have written an interesting, engaging story. Is it clear or does it leave you wondering what they mean? Ask questions and also tell them what you like about their stories. Try to give 1 encouraging positive comment and perhaps a way to improve or clarify or strengthen their stories.

A person who has a great impact on me

The people that got to know us best, from our virtues to flaws, are our parents. They have the greatest effects in our life because they are the people we live with. They see the most of our behavior and have known us the longest. They sacrifice many luxuries in their life in order to give their children the better life as possible. However, the one who I am going to talk about, she is not my mother in law (I don’t intent to meet one any time soon!) though she is in the same importance as my parents are in my life. My godmother, that’s who she is.

My godmother has had a huge impact on my life and it is because of her that I am the person where I am today. I met her when I was in elementary school. She taught me not only English but also the knowledge outside the classroom in her English center--- G-wonder. G-wonder is a part of my childhood till I came to the states for studying. From observing my godmother's behavior and listening to her lectures, she has had a great influence on my life, on my choices, and helps to shape my personality.

I have been asked a question several times from my parents, relatives, teachers, and even friends. What do you want to be when you grow up? Most of time my answer is “good question! I have no idea. ” I don’t treat this question as seriously as them because I don’t even know what I like. Till once I went to my godmother‘s house. There is a huge painting on the wall, and a huge heart fills out the whole painting. On the other side of wall is her self-portrait. She is naked in her self-portrait, but it doesn’t seem pornography at all. “Just be yourself, and listen to your heart” at that day I learned from her. Since then, I start trying every activity and drawing anything bump from my head, and attempting to hear the deep voice from my mind. She gives wisdom when I got lost. One day she sat down with me and told me how important it is to have trust in myself with everything that I do; don’t be afraid of making wrong choices and to dream big. She is the person who reminds me to pursue the things I really want to do.

Sometime the best teachers who teach us lessons those last a lifetime are not those we meet at the school. They may not be the one who taught us how to find right answers on the calculus test, making great sentences in English essays or knowing great deal of how doing excise makes small quantity of endorphin to release…. sometimes we may find the best teachers are those who closer to our personal life, closer to our heart.

Though I still couldn’t totally answer the question “What do you want to be when I grow up”, my answer is not “I don’t know” anymore. I want to be myself and love what I chose for myself, trust the voice in my mind, and make a adventure for my life. How lucky I am to have a great supporter in my life like her, whatever luck I am that I know she will always be there stand by me.
