New life in OSU (Shirley Lin)

Hello everybody!

This is Shirley Lin. I was born in Taiwan, Taipei. My mom is a half Japanese, but I am not good at speaking Japanese! I am a first year student in OSU. Before I came to Columbus, I was in Virginia for high school for three years. There are five members in my family which includes my mom, dad, Ian, Tiffany, myself and my lovely puppy. And I'm a middle child by the way. I have a wonderful family and I love them!

While visiting a friend who lives at Ohio State University, I saw the largest library on the school campus. I was amazed by the huge quantity of books in the Thompson Library. I could feel my heartbeat beat violently. Those books would satisfy my academic and leisure needs for many years. My first impression was even more enhanced by the diverse worldliness of the University campus in general. Therefore I consider Ohio State to be my top choice.

I strongly believe that Ohio State University is one of the best colleges in the world, when it comes to the amount of resources and the availability of professional field research. Such aspects of the University can help me to achieve my dream. I am specifically interested in the Fisher College at OSU. In Paulo Coelho’s novel, The Alchemist, an old man advises, “What makes life wonderful depends on each different people and things which have unique value.” I believe this is the goal of going to Fisher College. How people react to situations and things is predictable when correct research is the premise. Ever since I was young, I’ve been aware of the power of business and how it influences people’s ideas and actions.

We live in a fast paced society ruled by media while companies spend outrageous amounts of money to get the attention of viewers hoping to increase sales of their products and/or services. In the twenty-first century, business has become indispensible, and I want to be indispensible. Graduating from Ohio State University is the major step toward that goal!
