Blog #8 Digital Storytelling and Academic Writing

I can not believe this quarter is going to end so soon. And I can not believe that I can make a video about a period of my life by myself. This is a very reason I like this class, more challengeable but interesting. Firstly, at the beginning of the whole process of making my digital story telling, it was not easy to pick a topic. Because what I was going to do was not just a writting but wrtting and speaking combined with pictures. That means I need to choose a topic which has more than 20 pictures to support it and to make it unique. Those pictures are more meaningful if they originate from myself. I choosed "Bridges International" as my topic because of I am involved in this orgnization and I have time to take pictures about it. The entire story was wrote like a conclusion of my life experience in OSU with Bridges, so it was not very difficult. The most memorable time during making the digital story telling was the voice recording part. It was the first time for me do record my voice in such a professional condition—— whisper room. I was very excited about it and tried to do my best. For me, the most challenge part was the making video part. I've never used audacity and moive maker before, so it took me a lot of time to figure it out and combined my voice and background music and the pictures together. Compare with the normal writting, digital story telling has one more step of collecting and showing the pictures. They are similar in most of the place, such as using correct gramma, attracting reader and audience at the very beginning, connecting every paragraphs and making a reference list.
One of the similarity of digital story telling and writting is being careful about the intellectual property usage.
Cite the resouces of all the pictures which does not belong to you and make a reference list to show the original resource. I downloaded several pictures from the internet, and I gave each picture a website to let the audience know the source I used, in order to protect the intellectual property of the picture. The process of making this video let me learn that anything which helps to support your idea is free to use only when you cite the source.
