A deep talking

As well known, students in China participate in the college entrance examination. There is fierce competition in the College Entrance Examination. At present, there are so many candidates who treat this exam as a way to reach their goals of success, fame and wealth and just universities enroll new students each year. Every single student has only one exam a year, and only one application of a university which is only judged by the result of the exam.
It is unfair. Three years ago, I took part in the exam. But, unfortunately, I did fail in the exam which totally changed my life. Because of hard work, I used to be a top student in my high school. I was even ranked as the top 10 students in my hometown. Everyone admired me for the big achievement of my study and believed that the first-class universities would open the doors for me.
But, after receiving the result of the exam, I was shocked and felt that my future was ruined without any hope. I was disappointed during that period. I did not want to say any words, even towards my parents. I was trying to hide my injury into my own tiny space. I kept blaming the unfair fate and the unreasonable education system of China. Then I began to deny and abandon myself until my father had a deep talk with me.
Couple days later, my dad knocked the door and started talking even though I didn’t open the door.
“I know you feel upset and discouraged with having this result as the conclusion as your three years’ efforts. But what I want you to know is that as a young man, you still a promising person. The most horrible thing is not the failure itself, but the negative emotions after suffering. Facing with the difficulties in your life, you’ll find out that life is going to be easier and you will still be worthy of pride. One day, after overcoming the hardship, you will figure out failure is not the end of life, on the opposite side, is a new start of your life. ” With the end of the words, a slice of paper slid from the crack of the door with the sentences, “
It is defeat that turns bone to flint; it is defeat that turns gristle to muscle; it is defeat that makes men invincible. (By Henry Ward Beecher)”
After three years, I still remember and believe that unforgettable talking. Now after wonderful memories of three years in Tianjin, I am welcoming a new start in USA.
