A Trip of Shanghai World Expo

My name is Yixue Wang. I come from Hefei, Anhui, China. Firstly, I want to introduce my family, which has four members. My parents just have one child, that’s me! Meanwhile the other member is our little puppy.
In the second part, I desire to describe an unforgettable travel with my family and my cousi—Shanghai World Exposition.
Let’s focus on the background of World Expo. World Expo (short for World Exposition) is a large formal international exhibition held by different countries which has far-reaching impacts and a long history. This big event serves as a platform for displaying contemporary culture of different areas and achievements of different fields such like society, science and even art. The first Expo was held in London in 1851 with the title "Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations".
Now, World Expo has been held on both banks of Huangpu River of Shanghai, which will last for six months. I was going to USA for my further education. Therefore, my parents decided go to visit the Shanghai World Expo as our last family travel. The theme of Shanghai Expo is “Better City, Better Life”, which focus on the benefits coming with the better qualities of city. T
hen, let’s talk about the trip. When we arrived at the gate of Expo, we were surprised by the crowed people and the high temperature. However, because of the company of my parents, the time of queuing became kind of funny. After getting through the gate, we started our journey with visiting different exhibitions. The first place that we went into was Spain Exhibition Hall which was the biggest and most impressive hall in Shanghai Expo. The surface of the pavilion was made of hand-weaved wicker basket. From that I can feel the fresh smell from nature. When we got into it, the first thing that attracted me was the authentic flamenco dancing from what I can feel the distinctive national features of Spain. After getting deeper, we could see a big movie on the wall which showed the changes of Spanish cities with the theme “From the City of Our Parents to the City of Our Children”. At the end of the exhibition, there was a huge robot which looked like a baby. In my opinion, it may be a way for us to imagine the future life with our children. Certainly, there were also a tapas bar where people can enjoy gourmet food made with the finest Spanish ingredients. Afterwards, we went to several different exhibition halls. My major is architecture, so I am fascinated with the diverse types of buildings. Australia Pavilion was designed to be a steel structure with sculptured curving walls and a red ochre exterior. The inspiration came from the famous Ayer's Rock in Australia. Meanwhile, I was impressed by the unique exterior of United Kingdom Pavilion, a dazzling cube formed by more than 60,000 slim and transparent acrylic rods containing seeds of different plants, which can combined into into a variety of patterns and colors. Republic of Korea Pavilion is composed of 20 basic letters of the Korean alphabet to reflect the idea of “Friendly City, Colorful Life”. Japan Pavilion is a semi-circular membrane structure, the most attractive and interesting part of this pavilion is the exhibition of the high technology in Japan. And in the Denmark Pavilion, we can see Denmark's best-known landmark: the Little Mermaid, even though through the window. There were so many pavilions like Russia Pavilion, France Pavilion, USA Pavilion, Poland Pavilion and Italy Pavilion that I can’t mention everyone. And what a pity! It would take almost 8 hours for the long queue to get into China Pavilion which is going to be the permanent pavilion. Consequently, we decided to go there next time.
Generally, Shanghai has held a most successful and biggest expo with so many participants in the history of World Exposition. Personally, I think this influential grand pageant provides an opportunity for the countries all around the world to share and exhibit their cutting-edge technology and makes a contribution to the rapid development of society. It is not only a record of civilization of modern society, but also the prospects of the future.
